Mock Interview Practice
What to Expect in a Real Interview
Interviews come in several formats:
| Format | What it looks like |
|---|---|
| Behavioural | "Tell me about a time when..." — tests past behaviour |
| Situational | "What would you do if..." — tests judgment |
| Technical | Skills-based questions for your field |
| Remote/Video | Same as in-person but on camera — eye contact with the lens, not the screen |
| Panel | Multiple interviewers — address everyone, not just the one who asked |
The STAR Method
For behavioural questions, always use STAR:
- Situation — set the scene briefly
- Task — what was your responsibility?
- Action — what did YOU specifically do?
- Result — what was the outcome? (use numbers if possible)
Example
Question: "Tell me about a time you worked under pressure."
Weak answer: "I work well under pressure. I'm a hard worker."
STAR answer: "During my final year project (Situation), our team had to deliver a working prototype in 48 hours after a key member dropped out (Task). I reorganised the workload, took on the backend integration myself, and kept the team motivated with hourly check-ins (Action). We delivered on time and received the highest mark in our cohort (Result)."
Pre-Interview Breathing
Do this right before your mock interview below:
- Breathe in for 4 counts
- Hold for 4 counts
- Breathe out for 4 counts
- Repeat 4 times
This is called "box breathing" — used by Navy SEALs before high-stress situations.
Mock Interview Chatbot
The chatbot below will simulate a real job interview. It will ask you common interview questions one at a time. Type your answers as you would speak them in a real interview.
Tips:
- Use the STAR method for behavioural questions
- Be specific — avoid vague answers like "I'm a hard worker"
- It's okay to take 5 seconds to think before answering
- The chatbot will give you feedback after each answer
Welcome to your mock interview! I'll ask you 8 common interview questions. Answer as you would in a real interview. Ready? Let's begin.
Question 1: Tell me about yourself.
📺 Watch: How to Answer "Tell Me About Yourself" Perfectly
This is the most common opening interview question and the one most people answer badly. Watch this before your next real interview.
Common Interview Questions to Prepare For
- Tell me about yourself.
- Why do you want to work here?
- What are your greatest strengths?
- What is your biggest weakness?
- Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
- Tell me about a challenge you overcame.
- Why should we hire you?
- Do you have any questions for us?
Pro tip: Always have 2–3 questions ready for the interviewer. It shows genuine interest. Try: "What does success look like in this role in the first 90 days?"
